The Oakland Athletics squeaked to victory over the Boston Red Sox yesterday at Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum with the Athletics earning the win 6 to 4. It was one heck of a game that devotees with Athletics tickets will definitely cherish.
Athletics pitcher Gio Gonzalez (3.75 ERA) got the win, while Clay Buchholz (2.81 ERA) took the loss for the Red Sox. Gio Gonzalez went 6 innings for the Athletics, allowed 7 hits, one home run and 4 earned runs with 2 walks and 3 strikeouts. Also pitching for the Athletics was Henry Rodriguez (4.26), and Brad Ziegler (3.76). The Red Sox’s starter Clay Buchholz went 4 innings, allowed 6 hits, 2 home runs and 5 earned runs with 3 walks and 2 strikeouts. Scott Atchison (3.93), and Michael Bowden (0.00) also pitched for the Red Sox. With the win, Gonzalez’s record goes to 9-6, while Buchholz is at 10-5. Michael Wuertz earned the save for the Athletics, bringing his saves up to 2.
In addition to the 6 runs, the Athletics scored 12 hits and committed no errors. It wasn’t a huge day for anyone at the plate for the Athletics, as nobody managed more than 2 hits. Adrian Beltre had the most hits for the Red Sox (3), followed by Kevin Youkilis (2). Mike Cameron could not get much going at the plate as he left 4 runners on base. The Red Sox got 4 runs, 8 hits and 2 errors.
