The Baltimore Orioles did battle with the the Boston Red Sox yesterday at Oriole Park at Camden Yards with the Orioles picking up the W 5 to 2. It was one heck of a game that folks with Orioles tickets aren’t likely to forget.
Orioles pitcher Brian Matusz (4.72 ERA) got the win, while Josh Beckett (6.21 ERA) took the loss for the Red Sox. Brian Matusz went 6 innings for the Orioles, allowed 6 hits, one home run and 2 earned runs with one walk and 6 strikeouts. Also pitching for the Orioles was Jim Johnson (5.40), and Mike Gonzalez (4.02). The Red Sox’s starter Josh Beckett went 7 innings, allowed 7 hits, no home runs and 2 earned runs with one walk and 5 strikeouts. Felix Doubront (4.32) also pitched for the Red Sox. With the win, Matusz’s record goes to 7-12, while Beckett is at 4-4. Koji Uehara earned the save for the Orioles, bringing his saves up to 5.
In addition to the 5 runs, the Orioles scored 9 hits and committed no errors. It wasn’t a huge day for anyone at the plate for the Orioles, as nobody managed more than 2 hits. The Red Sox didn’t have anyone with a big night with not one batter getting more than 2 hits. The Red Sox managed 2 runs, 8 hits and one error.
Umpiring duties were performed by Ed Rapuano, Tom Hallion, Ron Kulpa and Lance Barksdale. There were 18,247 Orioles ticket holders in attendance at Oriole Park at Camden Yards.
