The Kansas City Royals did battle with the the Boston Red Sox yesterday at Kauffman Stadium with the Royals picking up the W 12 to 9. You don’t often see such high scoring games, and anyone with Royals tickets sure got their money’s worth. This high-scoring game saw the teams combine for a whopping 21 runs! Talk about excitement!
Royals pitcher Yasuhiko Yabuta (14.04 ERA) got the win, while Daniel Bard (3.72 ERA) took the loss for the Red Sox. Lenny DiNardo went 5 innings for the Royals, allowed 10 hits, one home run and 8 earned runs with 6 walks and no strikeouts. Also pitching for the Royals was Jamey Wright (4.54). The Red Sox’s starter Tim Wakefield went 5 innings, allowed 5 hits, one home run and 4 earned runs with 7 walks and 2 strikeouts. Manny Delcarmen (4.34), Billy Wagner (2.38), and Michael Bowden (9.00) also pitched for the Red Sox. With the win, Yabuta’s record goes to 2-1, while Bard is at 2-2. Joakim Soria earned the save for the Royals, bringing his saves up to 27.
In addition to the 12 runs, the Royals scored 11 hits and committed no errors. It wasn’t a huge day for anyone at the plate for the Royals, as nobody managed more than 2 hits. The Red Sox didn’t have anyone with a big night with not one batter getting more than 2 hits. The Red Sox managed 9 runs, 12 hits and one error.
Umpiring duties were performed by Tim McClelland, Andy Fletcher, Ted Barrett and Greg Gibson. There were 16,770 Royals ticket holders in attendance at Kauffman Stadium.
The win puts the Royals at a record of 62-88, (17.5 games behind the division leader), while the loss brings the Red Sox to 89-60, (5 games behind first place in the division).
