The Boston Red Sox did battle with the the Tampa Bay Rays yesterday at Tropicana Field with the Red Sox victorious 6 to 1. It was a huge win that rooters with Red Sox tickets aren’t likely to forget.
Red Sox pitcher Clay Buchholz (3.07 ERA) got the win, while Wade Davis (4.01 ERA) took the loss for the Rays. Clay Buchholz went 6 innings for the Red Sox, allowed 6 hits, one home run and one earned run with one walk and 8 strikeouts. Also pitching for the Red Sox was Hideki Okajima (4.60), and Daniel Bard (2.25). The Rays’s starter Wade Davis went 3.2 innings, allowed 7 hits, one home run and 5 earned runs with 3 walks and no strikeouts. Lance Cormier (3.15), and Andy Sonnanstine (3.60) also pitched for the Rays. With the win, Buchholz’s record goes to 6-3, while Davis drops to 4-4.
In addition to the 6 runs, the Red Sox put up 12 hits and committed no errors. Adrian Beltre and Dustin Pedroia tied for most hits for the Red Sox with 3 hits, followed by Jeremy Hermida with 2 hits. Marco Scutaro had a tough day at the plate, leaving 6 runners on base. The Rays didn’t have anyone with a big night with not one batter getting more than 2 hits. The Rays mustered one run, 6 hits and no errors.
Umpiring duties were performed by Tim Tschida, Bob Davidson, Alfonso Marquez and Tim Timmons. There were 21,430 Rays ticket holders in attendance at Tropicana Field.
