Red Sox pitcher Jon Lester (3.58 ERA) got the win, while Andy Sonnanstine (6.62 ERA) took the loss for the Rays. Jon Lester went 6 innings for the Red Sox, allowed 7 hits, one home run and 2 earned runs with 2 walks and 9 strikeouts. Also pitching for the Red Sox was Billy Wagner (0.00), and Hideki Okajima (3.19). The Rays’s starter Andy Sonnanstine went 4 innings, allowed 8 hits, 2 home runs and 3 earned runs with 4 walks and 2 strikeouts. Brian Shouse (5.14), Lance Cormier (3.00), Chad Bradford (2.57), Randy Choate (3.81), Dan Wheeler (3.56), Grant Balfour (4.55), and J.P. Howell (2.47) also pitched for the Rays. With the win, Lester’s record goes to 11-7, while Sonnanstine drops to 6-8. Jonathan Papelbon earned the save for the Red Sox, bringing his saves up to 33.

The win puts the Red Sox at a record of 77-54, (6.5 games behind first place in the division), while the loss brings the Rays to 71-60, (12.5 games behind the division leader).
