Red Sox Beat Orioles 9-3

Also pitching for the Red Sox was Ramon Ramirez (2.67), Hideki Okajima (3.36), and Takashi Saito (2.44). The Orioles’s starter Jason Berken went 3 innings, allowed 10 hits, no home runs and 6 earned runs with 2 walks and 3 strikeouts. Chris Waters (10.13), Brian Bass (4.96), Dennis Sarfate (6.00), and Jim Johnson (3.97) also pitched for the Orioles. With the win, Matsuzaka’s record goes to 3-5, while Berken drops to 5-12.

In addition to the 9 runs, the Red Sox put up 14 hits and committed no errors. Jacoby Ellsbury led the Red Sox in hitting with 3 hits, followed by Alex Gonzalez’s 2 hits, and Jason Bay with 2. J.D. Drew had a tough day at the plate, leaving 6 runners on base. Matt Wieters had the most hits for the Orioles (3), followed by Cesar Izturis (2). The Orioles mustered 3 runs, 9 hits and no errors.

Umpiring duties were performed by Doug Eddings, Brian Knight, Hunter Wendelstedt and Dana DeMuth. There were 27,546 Orioles ticket holders in attendance at Oriole Park at Camden Yards.

The win puts the Red Sox at a record of 89-59, (5 games behind first place in the division), while the loss brings the Orioles to 60-89, (34.5 games behind the division leader).
