Red Sox pitcher Paul Byrd (0.00 ERA) got the win, while Roy Halladay (3.13 ERA) took the loss for the Blue Jays. Paul Byrd went 6 innings for the Red Sox, allowed 3 hits, no home runs and no earned runs with 3 walks and one strikeout. Also pitching for the Red Sox was Manny Delcarmen (3.25), Billy Wagner (0.00), and Takashi Saito (2.68). The Blue Jays’s starter Roy Halladay went 6 innings, allowed 7 hits, one home run and 4 earned runs with one walk and 6 strikeouts. Shawn Camp (3.64), and Jesse Carlson (4.77) also pitched for the Blue Jays. With the win, Byrd’s record goes to 1-0, while Halladay is at 13-8.
In addition to the 7 runs, the Red Sox scored 10 hits and committed no errors. It wasn’t a huge day for anyone at the plate for the Red Sox, as nobody managed more than 2 hits. The Blue Jays didn’t have anyone with a big night with not one batter getting more than 2 hits. Jose Bautista could not get much going at the plate as he left 4 runners on base. The Blue Jays managed no runs, 5 hits and one error.
Umpiring duties were performed by Jim Wolf, Adrian Johnson, Gary Cederstrom and Field Culbreth. There were 37,560 Red Sox ticket holders in attendance at Fenway Park.
The win puts the Red Sox at a record of 76-54, (6 games behind the division leader), while the loss brings the Blue Jays to 58-70, (23 games behind first place in the division).
