Red Sox defeat Indians at Progressive Field

The Boston Red Sox did battle with the the Cleveland Indians yesterday at Progressive Field with the Red Sox victorious 4 to 1. It was a huge win that rooters with Red Sox tickets aren’t likely to forget.

Red Sox pitcher Daisuke Matsuzaka (4.59 ERA) got the win, while Fausto Carmona (3.49 ERA) took the loss for the Indians. Daisuke Matsuzaka went 8 solid innings for the Red Sox, allowed 4 hits, no home runs and no earned runs with 2 walks and 5 strikeouts. Also pitching for the Red Sox was Daniel Bard (2.03). The Indians’s starter Fausto Carmona went 6 innings, allowed 5 hits, no home runs and 2 earned runs with 6 walks and 2 strikeouts. Rafael Perez (5.59), Hector Ambriz (4.67), and Frank Herrmann (0.00) also pitched for the Indians. With the win, Matsuzaka’s record goes to 5-2, while Carmona drops to 4-5.

In addition to the 4 runs, the Red Sox put up 8 hits and committed 2 errors. Marco Scutaro led the Red Sox in hitting with 3 hits, followed by Victor Martinez’s 2 hits. Dustin Pedroia had a tough day at the plate, leaving 4 runners on base. The Indians didn’t have anyone with a big night with not one batter getting more than 2 hits. The Indians mustered one run, 6 hits and one error.

Umpiring duties were performed by Adrian Johnson, Mike Everitt, Todd Tichenor and Andy Fletcher. There were 14,758 Indians ticket holders in attendance at Progressive Field.
