The Boston Red Sox squeaked to victory over the Oakland Athletics yesterday at Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum with the Red Sox earning the win 5 to 3. It was one heck of a game that devotees with BoSox baseball tickets will definitely cherish.
Red Sox pitcher Josh Beckett (5.83 ERA) got the win, while Dallas Braden (3.56 ERA) took the loss for the Athletics. Josh Beckett went 6 innings for the Red Sox, allowed 5 hits, no home runs and 3 earned runs with 5 walks and 7 strikeouts. Also pitching for the Red Sox was Scott Atchison (3.62). The Athletics’s starter Dallas Braden went 5.2 innings, allowed 6 hits, no home runs and 4 earned runs with 4 walks and 2 strikeouts. Henry Rodriguez (3.74), Michael Wuertz (4.54), Jerry Blevins (3.80), and Brad Ziegler (3.04) also pitched for the Athletics. With the win, Beckett’s record goes to 5-4, while Braden is at 9-12. Jonathan Papelbon earned the save for the Red Sox, bringing his saves up to 36.
In addition to the 5 runs, the Red Sox scored 9 hits and committed no errors. J.D. Drew led the Red Sox in hitting with 3 hits, followed by David Ortiz’s 2 hits, and Adrian Beltre with 2. The Athletics didn’t have anyone with a big night with not one batter getting more than 2 hits. Jeremy Hermida could not get much going at the plate as he left 6 runners on base. The Athletics got 3 runs, 5 hits and one error.
