The Toronto Blue Jays squeaked to victory over the Boston Red Sox yesterday at Rogers Centre with the Blue Jays earning the win 6 to 5. Blue Jays pitcher Kevin Gregg (3.50 ERA) got the win, while Jonathan Papelbon (3.26 ERA) took the loss for the Red Sox. Brad Mills went 4.1 innings for the Blue Jays, allowed 7 hits, 2 home runs and 4 earned runs with 2 walks and 7 strikeouts. Also pitching for the Blue Jays was David Purcey (2.81), Jason Frasor (4.09), and Scott Downs (2.28). The Red Sox’s starter John Lackey went 8 innings, allowed 8 hits, one home run and 3 earned runs with one walk and 4 strikeouts. Daniel Bard (1.89) also pitched for the Red Sox. With the win, Gregg’s record goes to 1-4, while Papelbon is at 4-5.
In addition to the 6 runs, the Blue Jays scored 12 hits and committed no errors. It wasn’t a huge day for anyone at the plate for the Blue Jays, as nobody managed more than 2 hits. The Red Sox didn’t have anyone with a big night with not one batter getting more than 2 hits. The Red Sox got 5 runs, 11 hits and no errors.
