Red Sox lose to Rays 8-2

The Tampa Bay Rays did battle with the the Boston Red Sox yesterday at Fenway Park with the Rays picking up the W 8 to 2. It was one heck of a game that folks with Rays tickets aren’t likely to forget. Baseball isn’t the only game in town. See what other cheap sports tickets are out there.

Rays pitcher Jeff Niemann (2.93 ERA) got the win, while John Lackey (5.63 ERA) took the loss for the Red Sox. Jeff Niemann went 7 solid innings for the Rays, allowed 5 hits, one home run and 2 earned runs with 3 walks and 4 strikeouts. Also pitching for the Rays was Andy Sonnanstine (3.24). The Red Sox’s starter John Lackey went 3.1 innings, allowed 9 hits, one home run and 8 earned runs with one walk and 3 strikeouts. Scott Atchison (3.12), Ramon Ramirez (6.43), and Scott Schoeneweis (4.05) also pitched for the Red Sox. With the win, Niemann’s record goes to 1-0, while Lackey is at 1-1.

In addition to the 8 runs, the Rays scored 12 hits and committed no errors. Pat Burrell and Jason Bartlett tied for most hits for the Rays with 3 hits, followed by Carl Crawford with 2 hits. The Red Sox didn’t have anyone with a big night with not one batter getting more than 2 hits. Bill Hall could not get much going at the plate as he left 4 runners on base. The Red Sox managed 2 runs, 5 hits and one error.

Umpiring duties were performed by Angel Campos, Brian Gorman, Tony Randazzo and Ted Barrett. There were 37,609 Red Sox ticket holders in attendance at Fenway Park.

The win puts the Rays at a record of -, ( games behind first place in the division), while the loss brings the Red Sox to -, ( games behind the division leader).
