Royals defeat Red Sox at Kauffman Stadium

The Kansas City Royals faced the the Boston Red Sox yesterday at Kauffman Stadium with the Royals winning 5 to 1. It was quite a game that followers with Royals tickets will be talking about for days.

Royals pitcher Zack Greinke (2.08 ERA) got the win, while Paul Byrd (6.04 ERA) took the loss for the Red Sox. Zack Greinke went 6 innings for the Royals, allowed 2 hits, no home runs and no earned runs with 3 walks and 5 strikeouts. Also pitching for the Royals was Roman Colon (4.72), and Jamey Wright (4.50). The Red Sox’s starter Paul Byrd went 6.2 innings, allowed 9 hits, no home runs and 5 earned runs with 4 walks and no strikeouts. Manny Delcarmen (4.31), and Michael Bowden (7.88) also pitched for the Red Sox. With the win, Greinke’s record goes to 15-8, while Byrd falls to 1-2. Joakim Soria earned the save for the Royals, bringing his saves up to 28.

In addition to the 5 runs, the Royals managed 9 hits and committed one error. Alberto Callaspo led the Royals in hitting with 3 hits, followed by Mitch Maier’s 2 hits, and David DeJesus with 2. Mark Teahen had a tough day at the plate, leaving 5 runners on base. The Red Sox didn’t have anyone with a big night with not one batter getting more than 2 hits. Kevin Youkilis could not get much going at the plate as he left 4 runners on base. The Red Sox managed one run, 2 hits and no errors.

Umpiring duties were performed by Andy Fletcher, Lance Barrett, Greg Gibson and Tim McClelland. There were 21,228 Royals ticket holders in attendance at Kauffman Stadium.

The win puts the Royals at a record of 63-88, (17.5 games behind the division leader), while the loss brings the Red Sox to 89-61, (6 games behind first place in the division). The Red Sox again take on the Royals tomorrow. There are still plenty of tickets available so take a look.
