Twins fall to Red Sox 6-2

The Boston Red Sox took on the the Minnesota Twins yesterday at Fenway Park with the Red Sox coming out on top 6 to 2. It was a solid match that aficionados with Red Sox tickets won’t soon forget.

Red Sox pitcher Jon Lester (3.47 ERA) got the win, while Francisco Liriano (3.25 ERA) took the loss for the Twins. Jon Lester went 9 solid innings for the Red Sox, allowed 6 hits, no home runs and one earned run with no walks and 9 strikeouts. The Twins’s starter Francisco Liriano went 4.2 innings, allowed 5 hits, 2 home runs and 5 earned runs with 3 walks and 6 strikeouts. Jeff Manship (2.45), Jesse Crain (6.88), and Jon Rauch (1.69) also pitched for the Twins. With the win, Lester’s record goes to 4-2, while Liriano is at 4-3.

Kevin Youkilis provided much of the offense for the Red Sox with an incredible 4 runs batted in. In addition to the 6 runs, the Red Sox scored 8 hits and committed one error. Victor Martinez led the Red Sox in hitting with 3 hits, followed by Adrian Beltre’s 2 hits, and Kevin Youkilis with 2. The Twins didn’t have anyone with a big night with not one batter getting more than 2 hits. The Twins scored 2 runs, 6 hits and no errors.

Umpiring duties were performed by Brian Runge, Mike Estabrook, Jerry Layne and Mike Winters. There were 38,144 Red Sox ticket holders in attendance at Fenway Park.
